Baby’s Skin With Weleda

BABY'S SKIN WITH WELEDA

We know our skin is a vital part of our wellbeing – as the body’s largest organ, it keeps us protected from environmental toxins and regulates the balance of water and nutrients in our body. Baby’s skin is thinner and more delicate than ours, making them more susceptible to complications from bacteria and irritants such as particular fabrics or fragrances. Thus, it’s never too early to start paying extra care to our little ones’ skin!

Our Founder Victoria has been using Weleda’s products for her children for years, because of their use of sustainably sourced botanical extracts, gentle enough for baby’s skin. We wanted to share some of our favorite Weleda products from their baby line, and share some general skin care tips, so that you can care for your child’s skin with confidence and set them up for a healthier, stronger immune response as they grow. It’s very important to avoid soap-based cleansers when washing your baby, as it can over dry their skin. So a bar soap like Dove is off the table. The 2-in-1 Gentle Shampoo and Body Wash is a soap-free cleanser that uses coconut oil derivatives to lift away dirt, while sweet almond oil and calendula extract soothe and moisturize the skin.

Essential oils give this cleanser a refreshing aroma that doesn’t overpower your little one’s natural scent, and subtle enough that it won’t cause irritation when being used around the head and face area. While this is a great option for the shower, the Comforting Cream Bath is the perfect fit for a warm and sudsy bathtime for your little ones! In addition to some of the nourishing ingredients contained in the 2-in-1 Gentle Shampoo and Body Wash, it has Sesame Oil for extra soothing properties, and keeping the skin soft and moisturized. These two products are gentle enough for daily use anytime of the year. We are all too familiar with the delicate diaper area – it requires special attention because it’s exposed to excess moisture and friction on a daily basis.

Weleda’s Calendula Diaper Rash Cream blends Sweet Almond and Sesame Oils, along with Beeswax and nourishing Clay to protect and nourish the skin’s natural protective barrier, keeping skin in the diaper area resilient and healthy. It also uses Zinc Oxide, an ingredient commonly found in physical sunscreens, that protects the skin from breaking out in a rash. Finally, the Calendula and Chamomile extracts will soothe and calm any existing redness or irritation. We appreciate that Weleda has products for babies with relatively hypersensitive skin, particularly the Sensitive Care Body Lotion. This thick cream uses White Mallow extract, a powerful anti-inflammatory botanical that is used in products for adults prone to dry skin and conditions like eczema. The formula also uses Squalane, a rich oil that is less likely to clog pores and is often used in clinically proven, clean skincare products. The formula also provides this with Glycerin to lock in hydration. And like many other Weleda products, this lotion uses a blend of multiple oils, including Sweet Almond, Sesame, Sunflower, Safflower, and Coconut to build the skin’s natural protective barrier.

We want to start our kiddos off right, and give them the best start possible to set them up for success. Incorporating these Weleda products into their daily routine is a great way to show them a little extra TLC! Like all of the products we use at VRB, our baby favorites are tested in real time with our team members’ little ones so that we can speak honestly to their effects. If you have a favorite product to care for your little ones, share it with us!
