Our Favourite At-Home Peel

We know we’re preaching to the choir when we say Winter can be ROUGH on the skin – from whipping Winter winds to forced air heat inside your home or office, our skin barrier is being bombarded with challenges that can leave us feeling dry, flaky, and even irritated. One way we can manage and even combat this is through mindful exfoliation treatments both at home and with your esthetician.

One of our go-to’s at VRB is the Peeling aux Acides de Fruits by Biologique Recherche. It’s ideal for Wintertime skin because of its fruit enzyme complex that slowly eats away at the topmost layer of dead skin cells, combined with both AHAs and PHAs that simultaneously hydrate while they exfoliate.

While  we classify this as a peel, it comes with little to no downtime (you might experience a tad of redness in the day or two following the treatment). This is thanks to the incorporation of Allantoin, an ingredient to soothe and soften skin while promoting wound healing, and Damask Rose Water that holds antimicrobial and antioxidant properties.

This punchy little treatment can be added into your regular 60-minute facial, or on it’s own as a quick lunchtime-style peel. It’s balanced and gentle formula enables you to bring this treatment to do at home as well in between your regularly scheduled facials. After your peel, you’ll want to be extra attentive with your sun protection (including hats, sunglasses, and seeking out shade in addition to your SPF!) as you’ve just exposed a bunch of fresh new baby skin cells, and layer up on nourishing moisturizers like the Environ Super Moisturizer or the Royal Fern Phytoactive Anti-Aging Cream.

At-Home Application

IMPORTANT: Do NOT apply P50 toner before the treatment, as it will be too much of an exfoliation all at once and could compromise your skin barrier and lead to irritation.

  • After cleansing your skin, dispense a small amount of the product into a ceramic dish (about a nickel-sized amount)
  • Using a small facial brush, spread the product over the entire face, never making more than one pass on any one area. Avoid the eyes and do not bring the product down to your neck.
  • Let the product sit on the skin until redness occurs starts, letting it sit for no more than 5 minutes
  • Remove completely with cool water. Follow up with your favorite non-exfoliating serums and a nourishing moisturizer!
