Levelling Up Your Routine with Microneedling

microneedling

Have you been consistent with your topical skincare routine, but feeling like your results are plateauing? When you’ve got the quality products like Biologique Recherche, Environ and iS Clinical, how do you take your regimen to the next step? Enter, microneedling!

Microneedling utilizes  very small needles, often attached to a pen-like device or handheld roller, to create microscopic punctures in the skin. While we’re technically “wounding” the skin to trigger an immune response, it’s a relatively non-invasive treatment, reaching a superficial level in the skin’s dermis layer. The reason we want to trigger the skin’s immune response is to encourage the production of collagen and elastin, the proteins that keep our skin looking firm and resilient to prevent fine lines and wrinkles. Generating new skin tissue extends to improve uneven skin texture, as well as forms of hyperpigmentation like melasma and post-acne scarring.

All of these little punctures in the skin also act as “micro-channels” through which the active ingredients in your daily routine can more effectively penetrate. In other words, microneedling can allow you to get the maximum worth out of your at-home products! What’s more, the service requires very little to no downtime for your skin – meaning you can continue with your daily life without experiencing much discomfort to the treated area.

If you’re interested in microneedling, we typically recommend 4-6 treatments per year, with each treatment spaced about a month apart from one another. While microneedling is appropriate for all skin types, there is a chance you may experience redness and tenderness in the treated area for a day or so after the service. We don’t recommend microneedling if you are actively experiencing open-lesion acne, are prone to keloid scars, or are immunocompromised.

VRB does offer at-home microneedling rollers by Environ, which can be a great preparation for the in-spa service. While these at-home options will not puncture as deeply as our in-spa device, it is still a great option for helping your products to penetrate more effectively, and encouraging skin turnover. If you’re interested in at-home or in-spa microneedling tools and services, book a consultation with one of our estheticians to find out if it’s the right fit for you!
